Tumultuous  Welcome, Adulations as Governor Sanwo-Olu Commissions Bridge, Roads in Alimosho

It was one of such rare moments when the governed truly appreciated the government as residents of the Baruwa community and Idowu-Egba in the Alimosho local government area of Lagos State trooped out to welcome the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday, when he officially commissioned the Babafemi Dada Road Network and Link Bridge, along with the Yinka Folarin-Jamiu Lawal-Shalom Academy Road.

Elated Governor Sanwo-Olu said he was happy to put smiles on the faces of the people describing his gesture as backing his words with action and thanked the people for asking for more, “We will do more” he assured them.

He said with the completion of the road, the government has been able to solve a major drainage problem while the road will serve as a major artery of connection to ease traffic congestion in the area. He charged the people to protect the road from abuse and wrong usage. “It is for you and about you. Don’t let them turn it into a park”.

The Governor said he felt a deep sense of fulfilment with the completion of the road and the link bridge. In Alimosho Local Government. These projects are part of our government’s ongoing commitment to advancing Infrastructural development across Lagos.

“The Babafemi Dada Bridge and the Yinka Folarin, Jamiu Lawal, and Shalom Academy networks of roads in Alimosho Local Government Area, exemplify our administration’s dedication to advancing sustainable development through the provision of modern infrastructure.

“This project, which consists of a bridge and a network of four roads, is improved by the installation of solar-powered streetlights. The roads give safe and accessible motorable routes for the Igando-Ayobo community and surrounding settlements.

“This infrastructure supports our broader vision of stimulating local economies and establishing a foundation for sustained growth. The bridge and road network will improve residents’ quality of life and promote productivity by cutting down on commute times and expenses.

The 1.57km road features a 250-meter Deck-on-Pile Bridge, improving connectivity between the LASU-Isheri Expressway and Candos Road, and easing access to the Ayobo community. The project, executed by CCCE Nigeria Limited, removes toll charges and ensures smoother movement for residents. The governor urged residents to take ownership of the project and work to maintain and use it responsibly. Everyone residing in Lagos is a partner in our state-building journey, and we value your feedback and cooperation on this and other projects.

The Governor assured the gathering which also included traditional rulers from Igando, Ikotun, Idimu and other neighbourhoods that the fourth leg of the rail system would pass through Alimosho local government. He also assured that the government would soon embark on the construction of the Ikotun Bridge.

Giving a background to the project, the Special Adviser Office of Infrastructure, Engineer Olufemi Daramola, appreciated the governor for bringing relief to the lives of the residents as the network of roads will alleviate traffic congestion in the area. He encouraged the people to own the roads and protect them from abuse. In his words: “Road abuse is an abuse against the State.” He thanked the people for their patience, support, and cooperation while the road construction lasted. He appreciated his predecessor in office and his line directors for a job well delivered.

Both Hon Orelope Jimoh Alimosho 1 and Hon Kehinde Joseph Olaide Alimosho 2 thanked the Governor whom they described as the Digital Governor and Mr. Project respectively for his commitment and determination to transform the State.

Hon Kehinde Joseph Olaide recalled several myths and fables before the plank bridge could be removed. He said people said the former owners of the bridge had planted juju and the project was never going to be possible and returned praises to God for the successful completion of the road.

In a documentary beamed to the audience residents of the Baruwa community including the New London CDA chairman, Mr Gbenga Lawal recalled the sufferings of the people before the bridge construction. A resident, Mr. Frank Mathew said the owners of the plant bridge placed levies on vehicles, persons and goods.

Hon Desmond Elliot, Chairman House of Assembly Committee on Works and Infrastructure said it was commendable that the project was commissioned about one year after a joint committee of the Executive and the Assembly to the project.

The road was then officially handed over to the Idowu Egba CDA and New London CDA. Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his commitment to continuing transformative Infrastructural development throughout Lagos State.

Some dignitaries at the event included the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Senator Idiat Adebule, Lagos West Senatorial District, Honorable members of the State House of Assembly, members of the State Executive Council, and Several Chairmen of Local Government Area Councils.
