St. Patrick’s Grammar School, Ibadan, has elected new national officers to manage its affairs for the next two years. The new officers were inaugurated on Saturday, March 15, 2025.
Veteran journalist and communications consultant Ayo Aluko-Olokun emerged as the National President, succeeding Dr Dayo Mobereola, the Director General of the Nigeria Maritime and Safety Agency (NIMASA). He brings nearly four decades of journalism experience, having worked at the defunct Concord Press and The Comet (now The Nation). He currently serves as the editor of the Nigeria Democratic Report, the news portal of the International Press Centre.
Also elected to the National Executive Committee are Surv. Saka Ademola Lateef, first national vice president; Mr. Wale Lawal, second national vice president (Diaspora); Mr. Patrick Akinyode, General Secretary; Mr. Gabriel Oshoma, first assistant General Secretary; and Mr. Idowu Faith Alive, second Assistant General Secretary.
Other members include Engr. Olasumbo Akinosun, Treasurer; Engr. Joshua Akindele, Financial Secretary; Mr. Olusogo Faluro, Social Secretary; Mr. Bayo Gbadamosi, Internal Auditor; Barr. Samuel Erinle, Legal Adviser; Mr. Isiaka Akinbode, Welfare Secretary; and Alh. Ishola Olanrewaju as the Publicity Secretary.
A statement from the Association’s Publicity Secretary, Mr Ishola Olanrewaju, indicated that the National President, in his acceptance speech entitled “Elections Are Over; It is Time to Reunite for the Rebuilding of Our Alma Mater,” promised that the new executive would pursue an agenda to restore the school to its glorious days of academic excellence.
Mr Aluko-Olokun urged members of the Association to “channel our energy into collaboration, not division, as every member has a role to play, and our strength lies in working together. By pooling our talents and resources, we can restore our school’s excellence and leave a lasting legacy. Together, we rise. Together, we build. Together, we succeed.
“We are all winners, and St. Patrick’s Grammar School is the greater winner. Our school will ultimately benefit from our unity, collective involvement, and the investment of our human, material, and financial resources.
“There is a renewed enthusiasm and momentum for us all to engage in the rebuilding process. Let us maintain the energy and vibrancy we put into supporting our various candidates and work towards restoring St. Patrick’s to its glorious past, a cause we all hold dear. And I assure you that no one will be left behind.
“To all of us, let us leave the elections behind us and forgive one another. The election may have placed us on opposite sides, but today, we stand as one family united by our love for St. Patrick’s Grammar School. True leadership is not merely about victory but about nurturing unity and progress.
The strength of our Association lies not within any single individual or group, but in our collective resolve to create something greater than ourselves. Now is the time to move forward, setting aside our differences and focusing on our shared goal—revitalising our alma mater.
“Let’s channel our energy into collaboration, not division. Every member has a role to play, and our strength lies in teamwork. By pooling our talents and resources, we can restore our school’s excellence and leave a legacy. Together, we rise. Together, we build. Together, we succeed.
“We assure our members that the new NEC will promptly commence work by assembling our action plan. We have noted all your comments and observations. We value your support and prayers in this new beginning,” he said.
