LAMATA Gains Stakeholders’ Support to Convert Ketu Lay-By into A Modern Bus Terminal

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has secured critical community support for the Quality Bus Corridor (QBC) Package 1, following a high-level engagement with the leadership of Agboyi-Ketu. The session finalised plans to transform the Ketu Lay-by (Demurin Bound) into a world-class modern bus terminal.

The project, a critical component of the Ketu–Alapere–Akanimodo corridor, aims to eliminate traffic bottlenecks and provide a structured, dignifying environment for thousands of commuters.

The engagement was attended by a robust delegation of community leaders, led by the Oba of Ketu-Kosofe, Dr Oba Isiaka Adio Balogun. Representing the local government administration were the Vice Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Hon. Ganiu Fatai; the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Tajudeen Akinyemi; and the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Aderoju Adekunle.

Other notable dignitaries in attendance included the majority leader, Hon. Rahman; special adviser on youth and community, Hon. Mutiu Kalejaiye; and various ward councillors, including Hon. Fatai Akinyemi, Hon. Kazeem Balogun, and chief whip Hon. Mashood Fashanu.

Briefing the stakeholders, Engr. Femi Fayombo announced that contractors are ready to move to the site. He noted that while the terminal modernisation is an ambitious expansion of the original project scope, the Lagos State Government committed to it as a direct intervention to improve the quality of life and the efficiency of the transport system within the Ketu axis.

Speaking on behalf of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Mr Olawale Musa, the Director of Transport Policy and Coordination, Engr. S.A. Agbomeji provided a strategic overview of the operational changes.

He emphasised that the project’s success hinges on a mutual agreement between the government and the community. Following the engagement, a formal commitment will be signed to ensure that market women and traders will vacate the roadsides and move into existing designated market stalls to ensure safety and prevent project obstruction.

Non-regulated transport operators will strictly maintain designated loading and off-loading zones to prevent the recurrence of gridlock.

The Ketu Modern Bus Terminal is a vital piece of the broader Lagos Strategic Transport Master Plan. It reflects the state’s drive to create an integrated multimodal system where bus, rail, and water transport work in harmony.
