The governing board of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, has approved the promotion of nine deputy directors to Directors.
In addition, the board promoted 30 assistant directors to deputy directors, 35 chiefs to assistant directors, and ratified the promotion of 169 other staff members from one grade level to the next grade level.
To strengthen strategic communications, NIMASA also announced the promotion of several key personnel, including its Public Relations Unit.
The newly appointed directors include the coordinator, Abuja Liaison Office, Moji Jimoh; director Internal Audit, Odunayo Ani; special adviser to the DG, Nneka Obianyor; director Procurement, Biodun Fatade; Oma Ofodile; Gloria Anyasodo; Abdulahi Yelwa; Umar Buba; and Umar Ibrahim Sidi.
While congratulating the newly promoted officers, the Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, reaffirmed Management’s commitment to staff welfare and a transparent, merit-based career progression system.
He charged the beneficiaries to rededicate themselves to excellence in service delivery. “Our administration is committed to improved staff welfare. This promotion exercise is strictly merit-based, and we expect staff to reciprocate by rededicating themselves to higher productivity.
We will continue to prioritise staff welfare, while counting on your commitment to the ideals of the Agency in helping Management actualise its mandate,” Mobereola stated.
At the forefront of this latest performance-based promotion exercise is Mr. Edward Osagie, the agency’s renowned image maker, who has been elevated to the esteemed position of Deputy Director. Joining him at this new professional height is his deputy, Mrs. Shelibe Abe, whose leadership and dedication have been instrumental in advancing the agency’s media and public affairs agenda.

These promotions form part of NIMASA’s broader institutional strategy to foster a high-performance culture grounded in merit, diligence, and measurable impact. According to the agency, the initiative reflects a conscious effort to not only recognise individual excellence but also to position capable professionals for greater responsibilities in Nigeria’s evolving maritime landscape.
“The promotion exercise is more than a recognition of past efforts,” said an internal source. “It’s a forward-looking gesture that prepares our best hands to shape the future of the agency’s strategic engagements.”
NIMASA’s leadership remains committed to motivating its workforce, viewing these incentives as both rewards for dedication and investments in staff development.
As the agency addresses complex global maritime issues, the enhanced Public Relations Unit will contribute to stakeholder engagement, reputation management, and public accountability.
Recent Public Relations Unit promotions include Mebude Olubusola as Chief Officer, Amedu Edeh as Principal Officer, Femi Kumuyi and Faithwin Nwogu as Assistant Chiefs, and Paul Ocheme in a new, elevated role.
NIMASA encourages newly promoted staff to view their advancement as recognition of their contributions and preparation for increased responsibilities, reflecting the agency’s commitment to rewarding excellence and improving performance.
